The Grayling - 1898 Catboat
This historic classic is owned by Yard owners Doug and Sharon Goldhirsch.
She is well into her second century, and in fine shape after an extensive restoration
several years ago.
The restoration included:
New keel
Many New frames
Many new Floor
timbers
New Center Board Trunk (the old one had been removed in the 1950's!)
New Garboards
One other new plank and some smaller plank repairs
A new interior - cockpit and cabin,
including a galley
New rudder and Centerboard (the old ones had been lost)
New boom
to replace the badly warped original
New toe and rub rails
The Grayling, her name
since she was launched by Wilton Crosby in 1898 in Osterville, Mass., was the winner
of the 1991 Broadax Award given by the Catboat Association for outstanding efforts
in boat construction or reconstruction.
